Take an infant on the plane

The first plane trip to Dominican Republic took about 4 hrs.

What to do when you decided to bring your baby on a flight? As a parent, you know the best what is the best way to do. You may not have enough confident, but there is no one in the world know your baby better than you! I opted to take her with me by BabyBjorn. You can use any baby wraps that you feel comfortable. I wanted to make sure that she felt safe and secure the whole trip.

A 4-months-old baby don’t actually get their own seat (yes, it’s free). It is very important when you buy the tickets, you will tell them there will be a baby with you and if you can get the baby basket in the front of the row.

Before the trip, like other times when you take your baby out for a day or half day. It is essential to make sure you have enough bottles, formula (if you are not breast feeding) diapers for the baby.

You need to have a bottle ready before take off. Remember the way to get ride of the pressure in your ears during take off is to swallow. So it is important during the take off, your baby will do the swallowing motion constantly. Therefore, don’t give the bottle too early during taxing away from the gate or waiting in line. Pacifiers will work if it’s not the feeding time.

After the flight gets to the stable high, the flight attendants will bring the basket, cushion, pillow, blankets to securely hang in front of your seat. It’s nice, if your baby is napping at that time, you can take a break and put her in the basket they set up for you. We also bring our own blankets, one to lay under another covers her.

As a new Mom, you know what you need at this time (hint, a good time to go to restroom, nap).

Before the flight descending, the flight attendant again will come back to take the basket and everything away to get ready for landing. It’s time to put your baby against you, and get another bottle ready.

Be calm. Take some deep breathe . It works because your baby hear your heart beat and breathing rhythm.

Finally, you are at your destination, hopefully. I understand it is not the same as the vacation before your baby. But, honestly, can you have a “great” vacation without your baby any more? It’s the price for being a Mom! And personally, I love it!

I didn’t say it was easy, but I love it!

Mommy, I came here for you.

Yesterday, I ran into a friend of mine who I haven’t seen for a while. They were facing the fertility struggle. It triggered me to write this post today.

It is quite a common problem in our world now that people usually start family much later. When you research the statistics in medical world, it’s even scarier than we perceive.

I know personally people who went through the process, different variation of the treatment procedures. Many are expensive.

We had difficulties too. We scheduled a procedure trying to correct the possible problem. The doctor told us, even after the procedure the highest success rate will be closed to 50% to get pregnant. Two weeks before the schedule date, we found that I was pregnant.

We were the lucky ones!

Here is what I’ve done during that time.

First of all, a regular yoga practice, about twice a week.

Second, I went for a energy therapy. Something like reiki therapy, the practitioner tried to balance your chakras.

Third, acupuncture, explain to the doctor that the purpose of the treatment was to get pregnant. I went for 2-3 months around ovulation prior I found out I got pregnant.

All that can only work if you believe!

I remember, there was a Japanese doctor who wrote a book: Mommy, I came here for you. It was an doctor collecting stories from his experience for the young children who were still remembering prior the birth. Many also brought the messages about they were here before as a miscarriage or aborted situation. Bottom line, It is the belief of soul connection between parents and children. Different astrology, fortune tellers from different cultures also see the connection of the mother’s astrology chart fit/ connect with the child’s chart. It’s mean to be.

The strong belief that there is no way that you will miss your baby. The unbelievable sense of connections with your unborn child. In the center of your soul, you feel it.

And trust. Trust yourself, trust your partner, trust the universe.

To all that is and Let go! Breathe…

Air Travel with an Infant

Before baby, every so often when we were tired or frustrated at work, we planned a trip trying to escape the situations. Most likely, the situations were still the same after we came back from a trip, but we somehow changed our perspectives or attitudes. It’s always easier to deal after we came back from our trips.

After I brought my daughter home from the hospital, like all the new Moms, I was hopelessly exhausting with high self doubt without my normal perception of time. My husband suggested that we should take a trip! Oh, yeah! A trip always made me feel recharged. And…. we will have to take my baby along.

Kids under 2 year old are free for most of the airline. We live in north east United State, going to Caribbean make sense. After search around the deal that we can effort, Dominican Republic become apparent for our first adventure with my new born baby girl.

We decided for our first trip with the new baby, it’s enough to stay there for about a week.

So what to bring for the week with a four month old baby? Just think what are you bring every time you take your baby out and multiply …. so she uses about 8-10 diapers a day, drinks milk/ formula about 8 times a day. And the experts and doctors suggests that we should start giving her simple baby food by 4th months. Cleaning and sterilizing supplies for bottles and pacifiers if your baby uses them. Clothing sets fits the local weather, baby swimsuits, rattling toys, portable play mat, and everything you may think you need.

I meant everything! After you get to your hotel room, and set up everything you brought you should feel you transport your nursery with you to your destination. I m not kidding.

I brought 4 different sitting items with us: the fisher price health care booster seat, a vibration bouncer, Bumbo supporting floor seat, and of course the stroller. Don’t think that my husband didn’t challenge my decisions. The answer was that “ how do I know which one she will need? We use all of them everyday!” ( And make sure with a helpless look on your face.)

No worry, most of your luggage should be mostly empty by the end of the trip as most of the diapers ,wipes, formula should be gone.

I should affirm you. It’s all worthwhile. As a traveler become a mom, the traveling and exploring never stop. The parents needs to get use to bring extra luggage and a baby along your adventure. The world is waiting for us!
